Blue Water Artesian Water
Blue Waters is one the most popular brands of drinking water in Trinidad and Tobago

Just checking in to see how you are doing with the 2 glass a day water challenge? I also wanted to share how I’ve done this past week! I’ve been away traveling to Trinidad and Tobago for a family funeral. So that means I’ve been off my normal daily schedule and routine, which includes drinking water. Air travel always makes me feel dehydrated, so it’s usually my goal to focus on drinking plenty of water in the days beforehand and really concentrate on getting even more water in. I usually drink at least 96 ounces of water a day. Then, I added the 2 extra glasses. All of last week, I included an additional 24 ounces each day so my water intake was well above what I normally drink. To say I felt like I would float away in an understatement!

I learned a great tip while in Miami International Airport that I want to share with all of you. As I was purchasing a bottle of water at La Carretta, I noticed a water jug with ice water. La Carretta always provides free ice water to their patrons, which is fantastic. So a gentleman walked up and began to fill his Thermos Brand plastic drinking bottle. The nice people at Thermos, market their products as “hydration bottles.” So I wanted to be sure I have the language correct here. Then it dawned on me what a great travel tip! This man packed his plastic bottle (empty) so he would get it through the TSA baggage checkpoint and then when he was all checked in and near his gate, he filled up the bottle with water. I never thought of doing this! We all have our own water bottles at home, right? Simply pack an empty plastic container in our carry on luggage, backpack or handbag and when we are inside, near our gate, fill it up from a water fountain or from one of the fast food vendors offering water free of charge. This way, we have enough water for our trip, while using our own familiar bottle, which also saves money on purchasing bottled water in the airport, which we all know can be very expensive. Especially when traveling with family members, friends or large groups, this tip could really save you a lot of money.

During my trip, I drank a lot of water. I anticipated the weather to be hotter than Miami and was pleasantly surprised as the temperature was similar to Miami. We had some rain showers throughout the trip but they were short-lived just enough to produce wonderful breezes throughout the day and into the evening. One of the things I love about Trinidad weather is the wonderful breeze. Even if it’s scorching hot, there’s always a lovely breeze! I was surprised to see a sign promoting Dasani drinking water. I do have to say that when back home, whenever I leave home without my “hydration bottle,” I do purchase Dasani as I really like it’s taste.

On my trip, I also drank coconut water but kept it to 2 glasses, since I have a mantra emblazoned in my brain about not drinking my calories! Even though coconut water has 46 calories per 1 cup serving, it’s a wonderful source of electrolytes, vitamins and minerals, making it a popular choice to re-hydrate after a workout. It’s also all natural, especially if you get the water straight from the coconuts as I did on my trip.

Now that I’m back in Miami, I’m back to my regular schedule and back to drinking 2 additional glasses of water each day.

I hope you are keeping up the challenge!  Drop me a line and let me know how you’re doing!
