How To Eat Healthy While Traveling
My Backpack filled with healthy choices

Trying to eat healthy on a daily basis is challenging enough. Add travel into the mix and becomes even trickier. So how do we really eat healthy while traveling? Each time I travel, whether on  a road trip or out of the country, I plan ahead and try to learn how to better prepare for the next trip. Along the way, I’ve put together a some products, tips and tricks that have helped me stay focused. I notice that the further you travel and the more remote the destination,  it’s even more important to plan ahead  and prepare for your trip.  I’d like to share some of the things I’ve learned so far, along the way, and hope these ideas help you on your travels.

  • Plastic Reusable Water Bottle – on my last trip, I discovered this tip. I saw another traveler with his water bottle. I was concerned to try this because I didn’t want to lose my water bottle while checking through the TSA line at the airport. I’m pleased to report, my JaxxShakerCup made it through all the way to Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Instant Coffee and Tea Bags –  I packed Regular and Decaf Folger’s, Bustelo Decaf Instant Espresso. We are coffee drinkers in my family, so having a decent cup of coffee is important.  I’m also known to drink tea as well, I guess it reminds me of my Irish/Scottish heritage. Every once in a while, I’ll look for a nice cup of tea. We’ve had instances in the past where it was difficult to get a cup of coffee to tea. So now, we are well prepared for it.
  • Dry coffee creamers – another important ingredient for a decent cup of coffee. Also, it’s not high in calories, it’s not my favorite ingredient, but it works well while traveling when you’re not sure to have access to fresh milk.
  • Stevia – I use Stevia In The Raw brand zero calorie sweetener to add to my coffee, tea, greek yogurt and other things. On a daily basis, I have stevia in my handbag. As more of us are looking for ways to decrease our sugar intake, I notice Stevia offered in coffee houses and shops, but it’s still not always easy to find.
  • Crystal Light Zero Calorie Packs – believe it or not, the amount of water I drink while away increases. Many people experience the exact opposite because most of us don’t like to drink water. Sometimes it gets boring. That’s why I add Crystal Light Zero Calorie packs to my bottle of water which adds a little variety to the monotony of drinking plain water. Crystal light has lots of flavors, included iced tea, lemonade and many others. I’m drinking grape on this travel.
  • Protein Shakes – Fusion,WheyTech,Quest, or any single serve packs of Whey protein will do. This is another staple item in my travel bag. It’s a quick way to add protein and sound nutrition.
  • Protein Bars – Quest, Atkins – having protein filled snacks is a fantastic way to get nutrients and keeps us feeling full. Travel is one of those things that changes our normal routine. We may find ourselves not able to have a solid meal for many hours. This is a great way to keep our bellies full with good nutrients and low calories
  • Chickpeas – This is a funny story. In Trinidad and Tobago, Chickpeas are a staple snack. So here I am in the land of Channa bringing Chickpeas. LOL But, when we got to my niece’s house, guess what was missing? Yep, this great chickpeas snack was nowhere to be found. What I love about this snack is the fact that it’s protein rich, low-fat and satisfies the craving for salty and crunchy.
  • Mixed Nuts – are a staple in my home and having them along with us on our travels is a given. Just a handful of nuts really fills you up. I normally select Deluxe Mixed Nuts  with sea salt, like Planter’s, BJ’s Wholesale or Sam’s Club brands.

That’s a glimpse into my current travels! Stay tuned for more news on the JaxxFitness Give Away!

Stay Well!
