With Thanksgiving behind us and the Holiday Season officially in full swing, it’s important to stay on track with our eating. This way, when we ring in the New Year, we’ll be proud of ourselves for keeping our weight in check! Here’s A Day In The Life Of My Jaxx! Check Out What’s In The Bag! It is said that variety is the spice of life, which I do agree with. Yet, when it comes to making healthy food choices, what’s worked so well for me has been to have a few “go to” foods that I routinely select from on a daily basis. Especially on work days, to have food prepped ahead of time and some healthy, grab and go items really keeps my morning routine organized, while saving me a lot of time. With my Jaxx filled with food for the day, I’m all set up with healthy choices, low in calories, fat and carbohydrates.
Thankfully, my office has a microwave and a toaster oven, so I have facilities to warm my food and toast things too! That gives me a few more choices when I decide what to each during my work week.
1. Flatout Brand FoldIt Ancient Grains – open faced grilled cheese ( or fold it if you like, LOL) I was so excited when discovered these pita like flat breads. They have a variety of flavors and are full of good for you ingredients such as flax, whole wheat, fiber and protein. This particular flavor had millet, quinoa, chia seeds, among the wholesome ingredients included. I simply added Kraft Fat Free Shredded Cheese and lightly toasted an open face grilled cheese. It was delicious and super filling! No guilt with this meal. The calorie count for this meal is 145 and an impressive 19 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat, 17 grams of carbohydrates, and 1 gram of sugar.
2. Sunny Side Up Eggs & Canadian Bacon Egg Cups – another low calorie, high protein choice. Bake up 6,12 or 18 egg cups in your muffin tins and store in the freezer for future meals. Serve 2 of these little gems with a garden salad or simply by themselves. Either way, if you like sunny side up eggs, you’ll really enjoy these smiles of goodness.
3. Homemade Oven “fried” Chicken Nuggets- If you are a fried food lover or just like a little bit of crisp to your chicken, this meal is for you! I cut up a whole boneless chicken breast into bite size pieces, rinsed off the pieces under running water, then drained the excess water, coated them with bread crumbs ( I used whole wheat but any bread crumbs will do) and baked them off at 350 degrees for 15- 20 minutes on a sheet pan well coated with Pam Olive Oil Cooking Spray. Turn the nuggets two or three times to be sure both sides are crispy.
Diet Snapple Iced Tea -If you notice in the photo, I had a Diet Snapple Iced Tea tucked into the pouch on the side of my Jaxx. In my opinion, Diet Snapple Iced Tea is THE BEST on the market! They offer the widest variety of flavors and taste delicious. One of the things I have noticed about Iced Tea is sometimes it’s loaded with sodium. Diet Snapple Iced Tea is only 5 – 10 calories per 16 oz serving (depending on the flavor you choose) with 20 mg of sodium. I’ve noticed some diet ice tea brands with as much as 160 mg of sodium per 16oz. That’s crazy and a very sneaky way to have our daily sodium intake jump up without even realizing it. Just be sure to check the labels on the prepared drinks you select.
