I have been exploring all different ways to exercise and keep myself active. I do have some issues with my knees (I am trying not to say any negative limiting words) however my reality is, my body simply cannot do some things that my mind thinks it can. I try all different forms of exercise. When water aerobics was suggested to me, my first thought was not positive! I thought, really? what kind of workout can you possibly get from water aerobics.! So, although I had preconceived notions of a non- workout, workout, I decided to give it a try! I will be the first to admit, I was terribly mistaken! These classes are AMAZING! I am totally hooked! There are segments where you jog, do jumping jacks, use flotation devices and weights designed for water aerobics. It’s a mixture of aerobics and resistance training similar to what you would do on land. You also get the benefit of strength training by using your body moving through the water which creates a resistance that helps to work your muscles. I simply cannot say enough about these classes! I went to a class on Saturday afternoon. The weather was beautiful, although a bit hotter than I would have liked, the session was fantastic! I am still a bit sore in some areas which amazes me. My joints and knees are without any pain, which is why I began taking water aerobics in the first place!! Lots of gyms and community centers offer water aerobics. YMCA, JCC, LA Fitness,  just to name a few organizations I know of. Why don’t you give it a try and see if you like it as much as I do. Let me know what your experience with Water Aerobics.

  1. Wow I have always wondered about water aerobics. This will be in my future. They offer it at my YMCA I hope I like it would definitely shake up the old routine.

    1. Water aerobics was originally suggested to me by my primary care doctor. Since I have arthritis in my knees, he taught me about the many benefits of working out in the water. I will say that water aerobics has exceeded my expectations.
